According to Dr Schmelzer, trauma is “an experience or event that overwhelms your capacity to depend on or protect yourself.” Trauma can take different forms from a one-time traumatic experience (e.g getting involved in a car accident to repeated trauma such getting raped repeatedly for years). It doesn’t matter the type of trauma one has experienced, in the end trauma can have devastating psychological effects if it goes untreated.
Trauma is the very experience of something being shattered or breaking and what gets shattered or broken differs from
everyone. Therefore, the journey of dealing with trauma is yours alone and you can take it with someone who will understand and be committed towards your recovery. Trauma can be healed, just trust the process.
